Good News or Bad News!
Following meeting wz the Principal Assistant Secretary Mr Putchay, the ICTTN were told that our contract will definitely be renewed by 3 Apr 2006 but for a shorter period this time. i.e. we will not be left unemployed at least! The Ministry is not considering at this time to make us become permanent teachers for some reasons or another, but according to the ICTTN, this shorter renewal of contract will give us some more time/opportunity to come back to the negociation table wz the Ministry.
Sadly, better something than Nothing!! :-(
Stay tuned...

Meeting with MOEHR
Agenda: ICT Education in Schools
Among others present were Mr Dharam Gokhool, Mr Ruhee(Senior Chief Exe.), Permanent Secretary, All 4 Zonal Directors, ICTTN with the GSA and ICT Wing with Mr Seegum.
We discussed about the status of SITP, the constraints of the ministry, various problem encountered at schools by ICT teachers and PRIMARILY our concern of being employed permanently by the ministry.
The new Minister finds it most important to continue ICT Education in schools but at this stage the ministry has various constraints and is asking us to work on proposals while taking into consideration these constraints.
In this view, a team will be set up shortly by the Ministry consisting of officers from the MOEHR, MIE, ICTTN, GTU(ICT Wing). This team will analyse the constraints and come forward with proposals that can be put into action by next year.

ICTTN Press Conference

The ICTTN submits a Memorandum on ‘The Implementation of ICT as a Curricular Subject in Primary Schools’.
This Memorandum articulates the current precarious position of ICT teachers within primary schools and the Ministry of Education & Scientific Research (MOESR). This document also proposes a strategic way forward for integrating ICT within primary schools by tapping into the existing pool of trained and experienced ICT Teachers.
The purpose of this memorandum lies in the achievement of the basic objectives of each ICT teacher, as listed hereunder:
1. Maintaining ICT as a curricular subject taught by specialist ICT Teachers in primary schools.
2. Changing our status to that of permanent specialist ICT Teachers.
3. Acknowledgement of our four years’ contract as permanent service.
4. Extension of our role to that of ICT Coordinators in order to facilitate the use of ICT as a tool for teaching other subjects.
The rationale underpinning this Memorandum is the acknowledgement of ICT as a curricular subject requiring specialist ICT teachers, and the need to normalize the status of the latter as permanent specialist ICT Teachers.
